White Mountains, New Hampshire
September 12-17, 2022
A Super Sober Adventure!
Last year's trip was spent hiking in the White Mountains of Crawford Notch, New Hampshire. Home to many peaks and dense forests, that sometimes open up to steep stone slabs, crystal clear mountain streams and rivers, Crawford Notch is a magical place. It's one that tickles you with excitement and calls you to be in the mountains, where you can smell the spruce and hemlock, listen to the sound of squirrels and chipmunks running up trees and the high pitched voice of the cedar waxwing and song sparrow. All "True You Explores' summited four, 4,000 foot mountains on this trip.
Destination
New Hampshire is home to Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. It rises to 6,288 feet and sits right in the path of a storm belt that creates the most severe weather of almost any place in the world. It is a stunning mountain to behold and we summited it via the Cog Railway. Boy did we experience some severe winds and cold temps at the top - we had a blast running against the wind! The Mt. Washington Cog is the first mountain-climbing cog railway in the world and also the second steepest, with an average ascending grade of 25 degrees.
“Don't climb mountains so the world can see you. Climb mountains so you can see the world.”
-David McCullough
Accommodations
The beautiful AMC Highland Center, located at the top of Crawford Notch, hosted this 'True You' Adventure where we sang and told stories by the fire and nourished our bodies with delicious food.
